Who We Are

Servicing women as a stylist and hearing their varied stories over my 20 years in the hair industry made me come to realize that regardless of the strata of society, ethnic background, or family situation, many of our lives have been touched by various forms of abuse and addiction. This inspired me to find a way to use my skills to help women in need.

Working in the beauty and wellness profession, I understand how the treatments we offer everyday such as hair styling, manicures and make-up applications, improve how our clients feel about themselves and offer a break to their hectic schedules. For women who rarely, if ever, have the opportunity to be taken care of and enjoy some time just for themselves, these treatments can have a profound impact on their self esteem. As a result I established “Look at Me Now” in June 2002, a Toronto-wide event held annually on International Women’s Day. Since then we have also visited many shelters and drop-in centres in the GTA.

With the tremendous support from salons, make-up artists, and esthetics professionals and numerous sponsors and coordinators we are able to offer services to women across the city who are currently living in shelters and deserve a day to look and feel beautiful and deserving.

Our objectives are simple, to give women living in shelters a day or evening for themselves in an inviting and fun environment and offer them the dignity and self-confidence they deserve.
